I've owned this website for a while now but it's time for a change. My next project is to successfully transition to a website fully developed and deployed on heroku. The tool of choice is Ruby on Rails, wrapping my head around the MVC Architecture. Routes, Meta programming, Convention over configuration. It's quite the challenge but i im ready!!
A group of myself and 4 other friends have embarked on a platform 2d game using Unity 5. All of us are generally from different backgrounds as far as degree but if there was one thing that could meld all of our skills together making a game is an optimal choice. My teammates : Shane Roberts :https://github.com/srober81 Ryan Carpenter : Nicolas Sipe : https://github.com/bobjrsenior Kenneth Pierce : Our team initially split the roles concretely but that requires specialization in each role which wasn't the case. We decided that shifting roles within the design process gave us the best well rounded experience as well as spread ideas around. The first role i had was UI Design as far as menu, level selection and managing in game checkpoints. This week i maintained some player scripts including player attack and damage taken. Our hard deadline is the end of the semester which we are way ahead of schedule. We meet weekly to discuss what needs to be done and what's giving us the most problems. We are open to adding updates to the game as it's being made. Our idea of the game 3 weeks ago is simple compared to what we have decided today Check out the repository here! https://github.com/bobjrsenior/The_Final_Mage_2 For the better part of the past two weeks i've spent time learning Ruby through codeacademy. This would be my first time learning through online as opposed to the tradition textbook and i highly recommend any programmer learning a language do so using codeacademy. The course is free (!!) and requires about 9 hours in total at your own pace. The reason being is of the interactivity the site has with the user almost human like in response. You're guided through 19 activities each with subdivided parts based on the section and work your way through puzzles and problems. You being with simple input/output statements and work your way up to symbols, lambas , objects and more
The one suggestion i have is don't leave for an extended period of time, the activities build off of each other and that means you have to make a conscious effort I asked myself a question one day, basically how do rc cars move? obviously with wheels. But what makes the wheels go, a controller and as you come to realize as things get more technical is what operates a wheel is a servo, a compact motor with gears that can shift from 0 to 180 degrees.
but whats more intresting is that a controller is not the only way to control a rc car or model helicopter, but it can be done through your mobile phone!! It piqued my interest enough to test this theory on my own So we set up the servo and connect it too an Arduino which is a motherboard that can be used to relay messages between servo and some other item in this case an android. So im taking physics and wondered why do we have to hand write the process of physics when software exists to right the wrong?
Nerdmode !!! For instance, take .5kg ball and throw it off a 3 foot stand, based off of physics, the total work exerted is the force of (gravity times mass) times distance traveled. Total work is 14.7, however the software perceives it to be 15.8, twice as much as actual answer. Over the past few months, myself along with Jorge Palacios, have planned and developed an application coined, Fudora, using google services, variety of data structures and research we are thrilled with what we have even as we add more and more to the project. All of the progress is in beta for the time being nonetheless we're exicited.
It's official, i am the Treasurer of STARS today and i can't wait to get started. Being a member of the club last year was great because i met alot of great people but now i'm going to learn the ins and outs of the organization that got me out of my comfort zone. I know all other positions well and i feel this year is going to be more successful then last. Our President and Vice President are working already setting goals to be the best club on campus and me and the Secretary are handling the kinks and paper work before we have any actual meetings. The first day of school is almost here i can't wait!!!!
https://hourofcode.com/us This month myself, in collaboration with TATA Consultancy Services, reached out to local elementary and middle schools hoping to help further their understanding of Computer Science. One big misconception is that Computer Science isn't cool or that everything is handled with 1's and 0's. We were able to help students understand that Computer Science is not as gloomy as it would appear. Hour of Code itself, is held in over 40 Countries Among other stats, the global movement is used among notable people such as Facebook's Mark Zuckerburg and Ashton Kutcher Sometimes a break is well deserved. As the school year came to a close i was deciding how to cap off a great school year with the guys i tutored all year. Of course i teased them along saying nothing was going to happen but who am i kidding here they earned it. I pooled together some tickets and was able to get us all seats for the Charlotte Hornets last game of the season. Some of them got even luckier and met players on the court which was a bonus.
So we've decided that were going for a Food app. An application that will ask you what food your looking for, and accordingly will find that type of food near your current location. That's been done before im sure, what makes our app special, is that it will allow you to enter events your hosting, or know of that needs a population boost. Great for the college student looking for a way to save money and meet people. What got the idea kicking was the joke that's always said at information sessions, "We know your here for the Pizza please help yourself" which admittedly is true. Not everyone who attends is there for the information but looking for a next meal.
What Fudora will be able to do is help attract more students who companies could persuade, at the same time helping students in obvious ways as well. But Information sessions is just one type of event, there's Housing events, Birthday parties, School hosted events that can benefit just as much. |
